Agronomist’s notes
- Kansas wheat harvest underway with lower yields reported
- Combines began rolling in mid-June in south-central Kansas
- Some farmers report yields about half of last year's levels
The Kansas wheat harvest is underway, and early reports point to lower yields across the state.
Combines began rolling in south-central Kansas in mid-June, with cutting spreading north and west through late June. Farmers bringing in early fields describe yields below last year's levels.
"We're probably about half of what we had last year," said one farmer in the KWCH report.
Dry weather through the growing season stressed the crop in many areas. Some regions saw rain arrive too late to help grain fill, while others received hail damage.
Harvest activity is expected to continue into July as crews move into northern Kansas fields.
The full report from KWCH includes additional farmer comments and regional details.
