Agronomist’s notes
- Six 7S Mark 2 models from 170hp to 245hp on a 2.95m wheelbase, effectively replacing the long-wheelbase 7700S phased out in 2021.
- AGCO Power Core75 7.5l engine holds peak torque from 800-1,500rpm, removing the need for EPM power boost; AdBlue capacity rises 88% to 56.5l and diesel to 410l.
- First deliveries in spring 2027, with the range the first Massey Ferguson tractors supplied ex-factory with PTx FarmEngage.
Six new Massey Ferguson 7S Mark 2 models spanning 170hp to 245hp mark the Beauvais-built brand's most significant tractor launch in years, replacing the gap left when the long-wheelbase 215-255hp MF 7000 and 7700S series were phased out in 2021.
The 7S.170, 7S.185, 7S.200, 7S.215, 7S.230 and 7S.245 each deliver the maximum horsepower shown on the bonnet. Every model rides on a 2.95m wheelbase — a deliberate nod to the old 3m-wheelbase 7700S long-wheelbase tractors, and a clear step up from the 2.88m short-wheelbase 7S and below the 3.05m 8S. When the 7700S was dropped, its traditional customers had to either move up to the larger 8S chassis or step back to a 7S that topped out at 220hp. Massey introduced lower-horsepower 8S models to bridge the gap, but buying trends kept shifting toward compact, high-horsepower tractors with better power-to-weight ratios that can be ballasted up, rather than large, lower-horsepower machines.
To prevent portfolio overlap, Massey Ferguson has now discontinued the 205hp 8S.205. There is some overlap between the top of the existing 7S range and the bottom of the Mark 2 lineup, but the company says the two ranges appeal to different customers.
Core75 engine, no EPM needed
While current 7S and 8S tractors run AGCO Power's 6.6l and 7.4l engines, the Mark 2 models move to the latest Core75 platform. The 7.5l six-cylinder first appeared in Fendt's 700 Vario Gen7 range in 2022. Unlike the Fendt, which combines a structural oil sump with chassis rails, the 7S Mark 2 keeps a fully structural sump design. Massey Ferguson says this, together with the redesigned front axle and sculpted sump, helps achieve the tight turning circle.
Peak torque holds flat between 800rpm and 1,500rpm, and Massey Ferguson says this torque characteristic removes the need for Engine Power Management (EPM) power boost. Early testing has shown improved fuel efficiency over the previous generation. The single-turbo engine contains 25% fewer components than its predecessor, according to AGCO Power. Stage V compliance comes without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), though at the cost of higher AdBlue consumption — the product specialists' figures suggest a noticeable thirst. To compensate, AdBlue capacity has grown 88% to 56.5l and the diesel tank is up 105l to 410l.
Dana axle and bigger rubber
A new Dana 750 front axle delivers a 5.3m turning radius and supports a maximum gross vehicle weight of 14t across the range. Front axle suspension travel is 140mm, and the suspension cylinders now sit behind the axle rather than ahead of it. Larger 44in rims can be accommodated, with rear tyres up to 2m in diameter. BKT has developed two Agrimax V-Flecto tyres specifically for the new models — VF 650/70 R42 and VF 710/60 R44 — paired with VF 600/65 R30 fronts to maximise traction, increase the contact patch and reduce compaction.
All models use the two-range Dyna-VT (ML180) continuously variable transmission, reworked for 57km/h. Powershift speculation continues, but no alternative is on the cards for the foreseeable future. A new ParkLock system engages automatically via the Power Control shuttle lever, with emergency braking as standard. A four-speed PTO and closed-centre load-sensing pump are standard, with 110l, 150l or 190l/min hydraulic outputs optional. Rear lift capacity is rated at 9,600kg with 4,000kg at the front.
8S cab and Datatronic 6
The Mark 2 adopts the 8S/9S cab platform with updated electrical architecture to support current and future smart farming technologies. Interior volume stays at 3.4m³ with 6.6m² of glass. The Protect-U design remains, keeping the 15cm gap separating cab from engine to cut noise, vibration and heat transfer, while a relocated side wiper is said to offer improved window coverage.
The headline interior update is the sixth-generation Datatronic 6 terminal. The 12in touchscreen is 25% larger, 90% faster and fully capacitive. The redesigned interface keeps the familiar carousel layout but allows up to 16 tiles alongside the traditional MF homepage. New functions include Tractor Implement Management (TIM), Autoturn, tramline control, new wayline types, and over-the-air feature unlocks and machine updates. Up to four camera feeds can display simultaneously. LED lighting is standard, with four packages available and up to 27 LED work lights at the highest specification — eight on the bonnet and 19 on the cab. Category 4 cab filtration is optional for sprayer operators, alongside a premium audio package and a Professional package adding an external toolbox, inspection light, compressed-air outlet and air gun.
Efficient-spec models keep a simpler control arm with two manual and two electric spools, with Datatronic 6 optional. Exclusive spec brings the armrest-mounted terminal as standard with electric spools and HVAC controls at the operator's fingertips.
First tractors with factory PTx FarmEngage
The 7S Mark 2 will be the first Massey Ferguson tractors supplied ex-factory with PTx FarmEngage, previously offered mainly as a retrofit. Developed by PTx Trimble, the AGCO-Trimble joint precision business, FarmEngage connects farmers, machines and farm data in one digital ecosystem. It works with mixed fleets and machinery from different manufacturers, transferring machine and agronomic data wirelessly through the tractor's integrated telemetry, or via USB and cloud through the built-in Connectivity Centre.
The Mark 2 naming itself pays tribute to historic MF tractors such as the MF 65 Mark I, II and III, and Massey Ferguson expects the designation to appear across future product updates.
Production ramps up ahead of first deliveries in spring 2027. Buyers weighing a CVT tractor in the 200hp bracket should watch specification and pricing detail — and the real-world AdBlue consumption figures — as launch information firms up over the coming months.
