Agronomist’s notes

  • 57 sixth-generation Valtra T series tractors are allocated to Ireland, with roughly six as PowerShift and the rest CVT
  • Six models span 170-245hp with torque of 814-1184Nm from the 7.5L AGCO Power Core 75 engine
  • Cab offers 6.22m² of window area and 69dB noise; CVT and PowerShift both reach 57km/h
  • The tractor is a finalist in the 2027 Tractor of the Year MidPower category

Fifty-seven sixth-generation Valtra T series tractors are headed for Ireland, and Valtra reckons that number could climb. Sell the lot, and the Finnish brand slots itself among the top players in the country's MidPower class. That's the arithmetic behind a launch that takes square aim at one of Ireland's most contested tractor segments.

Agriland viewed the new machine at a private event at Gurteen Agricultural College, Co. Tipperary. The tractor is also a finalist in the MidPower category of the 2027 Tractor of the Year awards.

What's actually new?

Plenty, according to Valtra. The company describes the sixth-generation T series as almost a complete redesign of its predecessor — engine, operator interface and platform all get reworked. The range is aimed at professional farmers and agricultural contractors, not hobbyists with a fondness for red paint.

Engine and transmission

Under the bonnet sits the AGCO Power Core 75, a 7.5L six-cylinder unit that already appears in the Massey Ferguson 7S Mark 2 and debuted in the Fendt Gen7 700 series. It won Engine of the Year at the Diesel Progress Summit in 2023, so its credentials are not in dispute.

Six models span 170-245hp, with top torque of 814-1184Nm. Buyers choose between two transmissions:

  • The ML180 Continuously Variable Transmission, shared with the 7S Mark 2 and originally from the Gen6 700 series, delivering stepless travel up to 57km/h with full torque on tap and less operator workload.
  • A conventional PowerShift, which also reaches 57km/h and keeps the simplicity that transmission's reputation rests on.

In Ireland, the CVT will dominate. Of the 57 units bound for the country, an estimated six will arrive as PowerShift machines. The rest take the CVT route.

Inside the cab

Valtra has built the cab around visibility and comfort, and the numbers back the claim. Window area totals 6.22m², while cabin noise is held to 69dB — quiet enough to make a long day in the field measurably less tiring.

Two armrest options handle the digital side. The SmartTouch Gen2 brings a 12-inch customisable touchscreen with programmable buttons, while the Active Gen2 takes a modular approach that accepts upgrades such as the Parker joystick through the Unlimited package. The console delivers its information without bolting an extra monitor onto the armrest, which will please anyone who has fought a crowded wristrest.

Wipers are strategically placed, including one on the large side window when that's optioned over a second door. High-output LED work lights can be switched individually or assigned task profiles per operator on the SmartTouch Gen2 display. Night work, in short, is covered.

The Unlimited Ultra package

The headline option is the Unlimited Ultra package, which Valtra says combines "selected Unlimited features, smart farming technology and comfort-enhancing cab equipment in one carefully curated specification."

"At its core, the Valtra Unlimited Ultra package combines operator comfort with advanced farming technology," the company states. "Automatic air conditioning, AutoComfort cab air suspension, lighting solutions, heated mirrors and a right-side window wiper enhance everyday usability, visibility and ride quality."

The package also carries Valtra's "full stack" of smart farming kit: Valtra Guide with centimetre accuracy, Auto U-pilot, and Valtra SmartTurn, all pitched at cutting operator fatigue.

Comfort gets its share of the budget too. The Ultra seat offers massage functionality and Alcantara upholstery. Buyers choose between a 12L thermal cool box or a corner table right of the steering wheel, and the spec sheet adds a wireless charging phone holder, a higher-grade roof finish and a gooseneck microphone.

What does this change for Irish buyers?

The mid-sized horsepower bracket is where Irish farmers expect power, versatility and efficiency in one machine, and the T series arrives with the spec sheet to argue its case. One source says Valtra is deliberately targeting this power segment in Ireland; the 57-unit allocation confirms it.

Whether the brand converts allocation into leaderboard position is next season's question. Watch dealer orders and the Tractor of the Year MidPower shortlist for the first signs.
